About Illinois AAIDD
|
The Illinois Chapter of the
American Association on Intellectual and Developmental
Disabilities (AAIDD), established in 1968, has close to 200
members who are professionals in the field of developmental
disabilities. AAIDD is the nation’s oldest and largest
organization committed to improving the quality of life for
individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
and their families. The Illinois Chapter is the third largest state chapter. The Chapter promotes education, training and networking among its members and other professionals in the field of disabilities. The Chapter is also active in public policy and budgetary issues that impact a person with an intellectual or developmental disability. Membership in the national organization grants automatic membership to the Chapter for Illinois residents. The benefits of membership are many--in addition to print copies and on-line access to highly ranked journals, monthly emails with updates on policy, discounts on conferences, books, on-line career services; etc., the Illinois Chapter sponsors an annual conference and smaller regional events, awards recognition to outstanding Direct Support Professionals, and conducts periodic meetings at different locations around the state to preview and discuss innovative programs. As a volunteer, member-driven organization, the Illinois Chapter can use your support! By becoming involved you’ll have a wonderful opportunity to network with other professionals, learn about new technologies and emerging trends in the field and be part of a dynamic organization striving to enhance the lives of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Operating Board of the Chapter meets on the second Friday of each month, alternating between face to face and conference calls. The annual meeting of the Chapter is at the end of the Annual Conference.
